This large vintage basket is bell-shaped with weave pattern that zigzags upwards from a narrow base to a wide 22-inch opening. It is a true statement piece... handwoven with husky grass fibers and adorned with grass fringes.
The origin of this object is the Madagali and Koma region of north-east Nigeria, where it is traditionally used as capping spires atop thatch roofs.
