Endurance of Spirit – Haint Blue Adinkra Yoga Mat

Rooted in Blue is an AfriMod indigo project that pays homage to heritage, spirituality and resilience. The history of indigo is as African as it is Gullah Geechee. It is a history rooted in horrors, inhumane conditions and unspeakable suffering--yet the color indigo and blue endured to bestow aesthetic elements to the creative world community.

In the Rooted in Blue project, AfriMod worked with Yoruba “adire eleko” and “adire eleso” traditional patterns as well as Gullah Geechee sweetgrass basket weave patterns. We paired these elements with shades of blue--from indigo to Gullah Geechee haint blue. And by deconstructing and reconstituting multiple elements we were able to evolve several design properties for our Rooted in Blue home furnishings collection.

Yoga Mats

Our yoga mats lie perfectly flat and their sheared microfiber polyester surface increases your grip as you sweat. They also feature an anti-slip black natural rubber padding. Size: 68x24 inches.

AfriMod take on seven Adinkra ideographic symbols. An Adinkra redesign project that resulted in fresh minimalist reinterpretations.

Adinkra are ideographic symbols or pictograms that flourished in ancient Ghanian textiles and gold weights designs. These symbols represented concise concepts, sayings, or proverbs that express traditional wisdoms of the Akan (Asante) people.
