Nsibidi Symbols
This collection is an AfriMod take on Nsibidi ideographic symbols. A redesign project that resulted in fresh, intricate reinterpretations and illustrations.
Nsibidi are ideographic, abstract symbols developed in the border area of South-East Nigeria and South-West Cameroon. Nsibidi symbols were developed as coded communication within the Ekpe secret society. These symbols were used for messaging and for maintaining social order. Nsibidi symbols were also integrated into the designs of Ukara cloth, worn by members.
