Artisanal traditional African pottery. Hand-crafted, etched and decorated by Nupe potters.
Nupe potters use hand-coiling and pinching techniques to construct each pot. The pots are then fired in an open kiln. Artisans naturally stain each pot with a burnt-ochre derived from boiling tree bark. Over time, this glaze may take on a silver-ish patina if left to weather naturally.
Hand-molded by Nupe potters in the village of Giri, Nigeria. The village utilizes these pots with rounded bottoms traditionally to store water. The pots are buried half-way in the ground thereby keeping water cool.
Works well in the garden or indoors. Easily adjust the position of pottery with included natural raffia display ring. Imported from Africa.
