The Akua'ba doll is an integral part of Ghanian fertility folklore. It is a wooden doll fabricated to represent the connection between mother and child before conception. Asante tradition recognized that by treating the doll as a real child, a psychological connection develops that eventually aids the conception and birth of a healthy baby.
